What does LMN silicone mean?
LMN stands for low modulus neutral. It is a one-part silicone sealant that cures without releasing acid (neutral cure) and stays soft and stretchy (low modulus). Installers use it to seal window and door frames to walls because it handles joint movement and suits uPVC and most building materials.
What does neutral cure mean?
Neutral cure silicone releases no acetic acid as it sets, so it has no vinegar smell. It is also kinder to metals and many building surfaces than acetoxy types.
What does low modulus mean?
Low modulus means the cured sealant is soft and takes little force to stretch. Joints can open and close without peeling the sealant off the frame or wall.
Which standards apply?
- EN 15651 for building sealants, with a Declaration of Performance from the maker
- ISO 11600 classification, such as F/G 25 LM on one common product
When should installers not use it?
Read the maker’s data sheet. Some LMN products are not recommended against natural stone, and they are not for glass wall assemblies. Use the grade the glazing system specifies for structural bonding or glass walls.
