What thickness door panel do I need, 24mm or 28mm?
Match the panel to the glazing rebate rather than choosing by preference. If the door frame takes a 28 mm unit, a 28 mm panel generally insulates slightly better. A 24 mm panel suits frames set up for it. Measure the rebate depth and the existing panel before ordering.
How do I measure the panel thickness?
- Remove the glazing bead on one side with a bead knife or putty knife
- Lift out the panel or glass unit
- Measure its thickness with callipers or a steel rule
- Measure the rebate depth in the door leaf
- Note the width and height with the beads off
What happens if the thickness is wrong?
- The glazing beads may not clip back in
- The gaskets may not seal, so water and air get in
- The panel may rattle or sit proud of the frame
What else should I specify on the order?
Give the panel size, colour, any decorative finish and the profile system if known. Check which thicknesses the profile maker supports. For panel and uPVC door supply, call the Worthing trade counter at Unit 1, Friar Walk.
