How is the slave door locked on uPVC French doors?
The slave (inactive) door is secured by bolts at the top and bottom, usually flush bolts or lever-operated shootbolts, then the master door overlaps it at the meeting stile and is locked with the multipoint lock. Once the slave is bolted and the master locked, neither opens.
What types of slave locking are there?
- Manual flush bolts, set into the edge of the slave leaf at head and foot
- Lever or handle-operated shootbolts that drive the top and bottom bolts together
- Keep plates in the head and threshold that the bolts engage
How does the master door lock?
The master leaf carries the handle, the cylinder and the multipoint gearbox, which locks into keeps around the frame. It also closes over the slave leaf, which holds the slave in place.
What should you check when fitting?
- Bolts line up with the keeps in the head and threshold
- Bolts engage fully without forcing
- The slave is square before the master is hung
- The meeting stile gasket compresses evenly
