Are stable doors PAS 24 approved?
Not automatically. A stable door is only PAS 24 approved if that exact door set, including its split-leaf hardware, has passed PAS 24 testing and has a certificate. Many stable doors are untested, so ask the manufacturer for the certificate for the specific model and configuration.
What does PAS 24 test?
PAS 24 is a test standard for the resistance of door sets and windows to physical attack. The current version, PAS 24:2016, tests the whole product, including frame, locks and glazing, as one assembly.
What affects a stable door’s result?
- The joint between the top and bottom leaves
- Bolts or locks that hold the two leaves together
- The multipoint lock and cylinder
- The frame, threshold and glazing, if fitted
Do the regulations require it?
Approved Document Q applies to new dwellings, not replacement doors. A PAS 24 certificate is still often requested by insurers or on Secured by Design schemes. Ask for the certificate before quoting stable doors, available through our Worthing trade counter at Unit 1, Friar Walk.
