What is the lowest pitch for a lean-to conservatory roof?
There is no single legal minimum. Each roof system states its own, and for glass lean-to roofs the range is generally 2.5 to 5 degrees. Always work to the pitch on the manufacturer’s data sheet, and allow for drainage, the wall material and the projection of the roof.
What affects the minimum pitch?
- The glazing or roof system and its tested drainage detail
- The material of the wall the roof abuts
- The length of the projection from the wall
- Local building regulations and weather exposure
What goes wrong on very low pitches?
Water ponds, dirt collects and seals take more strain, so leaks and staining become more likely. Very flat lean-tos need an integrated drainage system. Chasing a near-flat look without one is a false economy.
What should you check before ordering?
Measure the wall height and projection, work out the pitch from the cill and ridge heights, and compare it with the system’s stated minimum. Wind and snow loads can also change what is suitable.
