Do thermally broken aluminium windows still get condensation?
Yes, they can, but far less than non-broken frames. Condensation forms when warm, moist air meets a cold surface. A thermal break keeps the inner frame warmer, so it forms less often. Room humidity, ventilation and the glass unit still decide whether it appears.
What does the thermal break do?
A thermal break is a non-conductive strip, usually polyamide, between the inner and outer aluminium profiles. It cuts heat flow through the frame, so the internal surface stays warmer. Wider, reinforced breaks perform better.
Why might condensation still appear?
- High indoor humidity from cooking, drying clothes or a new build still drying out.
- Poor ventilation, including blocked trickle vents.
- Gaps in the thermal break at corners or fixings.
- A cold glass edge on a basic spacer.
What should a trade buyer check?
Ask for the thermal break width and the system’s Uf value. Pair it with a warm-edge spacer and fit trickle vents or other ventilation to meet Approved Document F. MLI Building Products supplies supply-only aluminium windows and bifolds to installers from the Worthing trade counter.
